Sword (Shamshir)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The sword, titled "Sword (Shamshir)" by an unknown artist, has a curved, single-edged blade made of metal with a slight curve and tapering to a point at the tip. The blade's surface appears worn with visible signs of aging. Attached to the top of the blade is a metal hilt with a hook-shaped guard. A small metal quillon extends perpendicularly from the hilt. The hilt and guard have a darker appearance compared to the blade. A piece of string or cord is tied around the base of the hilt and the blade. The background of the image is a plain gray color.
