Guarded Dagger (Katar)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Guarded Dagger (Katar) by an unknown artist features a dagger with an intricately designed handle and blade. The handle is made of metal with a bulbous shape at the top and narrows towards the bottom where it meets the blade. The blade is long, thin, and pointed. A guard is positioned at the top of the blade and handle, consisting of two curved metal pieces that resemble leaves or petals, with two thin, straight metal pieces extending upwards on either side. The entire piece has an ornate design with various patterns etched into it. The background is plain and light-colored.
