Case (Inrō) with a Fox from the Kyōgen Play "The Fox Hunter" (Tsurigitsune) (obverse); Haystacks and Stream from the Kyōgen Play "Hakuzosu" (reverse)

Rectangular, rounded case with a black top and bottom, and braided purple and white cord handles. The obverse shows a relief depiction of a fox and grasses. The reverse depicts relief haystacks and a stream on one side and on the other a man in a traditional Japanese robe crouched beside a fox. The entire case is covered with thin, light brown, vertical strips. The background behind the case is plain. The case appears to be made of wood or lacquer. The images on the case appear to be carved.
