A Lady Applying Henna to Her Foot

Ustad Mohamed, son of Murad

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The painting depicts a woman sitting on the ground, wearing an orange dress. She has long dark hair and is applying henna to her right foot. The woman sits on a grassy area with her back to a large tree trunk that curves from the bottom right to center left. A small white cup sits beside her on the ground to the left. She holds a small object in her right hand which she uses to apply the henna. A grassy hill with small trees slopes upward behind her. The trees have a few leaves; one tree is on the left and another on the right. An orange and yellow sky is at the top. A white bird stands on the grass to the right of the woman, and an orange and brown hat sits on the ground to the left. The painting has a thin black border with a thicker orange border around it.
