Ise-ebi and Shiba-ebi, from the series Uozukushi (Every Variety of Fish)

Utagawa Hiroshige

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A large dark brown lobster with long antennae pointing upwards and to the right dominates the center. The lobster faces left, with its body and tail angled down and to the right. It has eight legs; two large claws; and a segmented, spiny body. A smaller light-colored shrimp with long antennae points to the right. The background features blue water at the bottom, light beige in the middle, and a thin red stripe at the top. Japanese characters appear in black ink on the top left and right.
