Netsuke of Quail with Millet

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Small, dark brown wooden carving of two quails and a bundle of millet. The quails are positioned back to back, each carved from a single piece of wood on either side of the millet. The quail on the right faces forward, while the quail on the left faces away. Both quails have detailed feathers carved into their bodies, with the quail on the right having a more textured appearance around its head and neck. The millet bundle is carved to show individual grains and wrapped with two bands of wood. The background is plain gray. Netsuke of Quail with Millet.
