Votive Tablet with Buddhist Triad

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A votive tablet with a Buddhist triad. A central figure sits in the center on a raised lotus pedestal, wearing a simple monk's robe, with hands clasped in the lap, a rounded halo behind the head. The figure on the left stands on a lotus flower base with hands clasped in front of the chest. The figure on the right stands on a lotus flower base in a similar posture. Two more rounded halos are behind these two side figures. Some red pigment remains on the tablet. The tablet is made from terracotta-colored clay or stone. The tablet is pointed on top with a slightly convex surface with a shadow cast on a gradient background transitioning from dark gray to light gray.
