Set of Five Soba Cups (Soba choko) with Interlinked Circles (Shippō)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Five small, white porcelain cups with a black interlinked circle pattern. The cups vary slightly in shape and size. One cup is upside down in the center, showing a small mark on the bottom. The four outer cups have a wide mouth and taper down to a narrow base. The two center cups are more conical in shape. The pattern on the cups consists of interlocking circles made up of four curved lines. The background is a dark gray color.
