The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Foliate Pedestal for a Buddhist Image by Asian, is a gold-colored metal object with a square base. The base has a decorative edge and a raised design around the bottom. A stem rises from the center of the base, with intricate carvings on it. The stem splits into multiple curved branches that extend outwards and upwards, each adorned with foliage and two dragon-like creatures. The branches are decorated with scroll-like designs and leaves. At the top of the stem is a fluted section that supports a short, wide, bowl-like structure with a decorative edge. The background is a gradient from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom.
