Erxian (Two-Stringed Chinese Fiddle)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Erxian, a two-stringed Chinese fiddle, has a long, thin, dark-colored neck with a painting on it. Three tuning pegs with spherical tops are on the top end. The strings run down to a round body, wrapped with a darker material and decorated with a geometric pattern on top. Two strings are visible. The body leans on its side. The background is gray, with dark shadows at the top and lighter at the bottom.
