The Petain Medal by Èmile Séraphin Vernier shows two sides of a bronze-colored medal. The left side features a profile view of a man's head and shoulders. The man has a bald head, and he is wearing a collared shirt. The words "PHILIPPE PETAIN MARECHAL DE FRANCE 1918" are written in raised letters around the edge of the medal. The right side depicts a soldier wearing a helmet, a long coat, and a bag over his shoulder. He is holding a large hammer or mallet above his head with his right hand, and his left arm is bent at the elbow. The words "AU MARECHAL PETAIN" are written at the top of the medal. There are more inscriptions on either side, but they are not legible. Behind the soldier, there appears to be a landscape with hills.
