Bullfights: A Moor Caught by a Bull in the Ring

Francisco de Goya

Cleveland Museum of Art

Black and white image of a bullfight scene. The scene is set in a ring with a flat surface and a wall in the background. A bull is charging to the left. A man on foot, wearing loose-fitting white clothing, faces the bull while leaning backward as if recoiling. The man holds a long spear-like object in a two-handed grip extended to his right. A second man, on top of the bull, wears loose-fitting white clothing and a hat; he faces right and appears to be clinging to the bull. The image is surrounded by a thick white border that is slightly textured and has a rough edge at the bottom; the image itself has a thin black border.
