The Resurrection, from an Altar Frontal
The Resurrection, from an Altar Frontal: The image depicts Jesus Christ standing on a sarcophagus surrounded by three sleeping or unconscious guards. Jesus wears a blue robe with a gold trim and has long hair and a beard. His right hand is raised in a gesture, and a halo or rays emanate from behind his head, with two red prongs resembling thorns or a crown. The sarcophagus is rectangular with a latticework pattern on the front and a red interior. The background features beige fabric with raised, embroidered designs including green and gold leaves, vines, and a red cross-like symbol. The guards around the sarcophagus wear various colored tunics and are positioned on either side, some are sitting or kneeling. Two trees with green and gold leaves are on either side of the composition. The overall scene is rendered in a mix of colors including blue, gold, red, and green on a beige fabric background.
