Leaf from a Book of Hours: The Raising of the Cross
The image depicts a scene of Jesus Christ being hoisted onto a cross. Jesus is shirtless, wearing a white loincloth and a gold halo. He is positioned at the top of the image, arms outstretched on the cross, with his feet tied to the bottom. Four men in colorful clothing are below him, one on the left appears to be wearing orange and blue, another in silver armor, one in a pink shirt and black pants, and one on the right with a yellow tunic and gray hat. The man on the right appears to be pulling on ropes attached to Jesus' wrists. The background shows a blue sky with clouds, greenery on the left side, and a cityscape on the horizon. The image is bordered by a dark frame and an outer border decorated with illustrations of plants, flowers, butterflies, and a skull and femur on the bottom. The border's background is gold.
