Open sketchbook with two facing pages showing a harbor scene. The left and right pages are spread open to reveal a view of a coastal area. The watercolor painting depicts a cove or small bay with several boats and sailboats. A cluster of buildings lines the right side of the cove, and a distant shoreline with more buildings and trees stretches across the top. The water is blue with scattered white sailboats and a few small vessels closer to shore. On the left page, a tree with green foliage and a red-roofed building are in the foreground. Scattered throughout are sketches in dark blue or black pencil. The right page shows a curved walkway or bridge leading to the buildings on the right. Dark blue or black pencil marks are used for additional details and sketches. The background of the painting features a blue sky that fades to white at the top edge of the pages. The pages themselves are yellowed with age and have rough edges.
