Three Cuttings from a Missal: Initial E with the Angels of the Entombment

Cleveland Museum of Art

Medieval-style illuminated manuscript page. The page has a gold background with a red and blue border. Inside the border, a scene depicts the entombment. A nude body lies on a stone platform in center, surrounded by three figures with golden hair; two on either side wear white clothing, one on the right holds a censer, while the central figure wears gold robes. A large, gold, ornate initial "E" is partially visible at bottom left. Text in black calligraphy appears below the scene.
