Leaf from a Latin Bible: Initial P with St. Paul Holding a Sword (St. Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians)

Johannes Grusch Atelier

Cleveland Museum of Art

A yellowed, aged piece of parchment with black text written in a language that appears to be Latin. The text is arranged in two columns. A large, decorative letter "P" is in the center, extending down the page, colored blue, gold, and red. At the top of the page, the word "ephe" is written in red and blue. The decorative letter "P" contains an image of a man with a halo, dressed in blue and beige clothing, holding a sword. The man has a beard and a tonsure. The decorative border of the letter is gold and blue. A blue curlicue design on the left side of the page frames the left column of text. The parchment appears to be old and worn.
