Printed Book of Hours (Use of Rome): fol. 25r, The Annunciation

Guillaume Le Rouge

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a colorful illustration of a scene from the Bible. The scene depicts two people in a room. The person on the right has long blonde hair and wears a blue dress, sitting on a throne-like chair. The person on the left has short brown hair and wears a brown robe, holding a book. A white dove descends from a sunburst above, and an old man sits on an arch. The room features a green and blue floor, a table with objects on it, and a vase with flowers. There are also Latin words written in black, red, and blue ink on the page. A decorative border surrounds the illustration, with a red and gold frame, a blue and yellow design at the bottom left, and a tassel on the right side. The background of the page is aged and yellowed.
