Printed Book of Hours (Use of Rome): fol. 45r, Coronation of the Virgin

Guillaume Le Rouge

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a medieval-style illustration of a scene with a woman in a blue dress with gold accents and a green head covering being crowned by a man sitting on a throne wearing gold. The man on the throne has a white beard and wears a gold crown, robe, and holds a book and sceptre. A second man in a brown hooded robe and white clothing stands to the left. The scene is surrounded by an ornate gold frame with green panels on either side and blue panels at the left and right edges. A red banner at the top reads "beate marie". A brown banner at the bottom reads "AVE REGINA Celorum". There is a circular floral design below the scene and text in black ink. The background behind the frame is yellowed paper.
