Guillaume Le Rouge

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a medieval-style illustration of a scene from the Nativity. The scene shows the Virgin Mary standing on the left side of a manger, wearing a blue robe with gold accents and a gold halo around her head. She is looking down at a baby lying in the manger. On the right side of the manger is an old man, Joseph, wearing a blue robe and a brown cloak. He is sitting and looking down at the baby. The manger is brown with a sloping roof. The background shows a small town or village with white buildings and red roofs under a blue sky. The illustration is framed by a gold border with green panels on either side and decorative tassels on the right. The border also features some red text at the top and a circular design with flowers on the bottom left. There is also a block of black text with some red accents on the bottom center. The overall color palette includes shades of blue, gold, brown, green, and red.
