Tree Sketch (from Sketchbook VII)

William Trost Richards

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A pencil sketch on a rectangular piece of white paper with a central landscape drawing. The drawing depicts trees with bare branches on a slope. Trees are on the right and left in the background and one large tree with a wide-spreading canopy is centered. The tree on the right appears larger and closer. The slope descends to the right. A horizontal line runs across the bottom center. The left two-thirds of the paper is blank. The paper has a thin black border on the right and a thicker black line on the left. The paper has a darker border around it.
