Pair of Rowel Spurs

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Pair of Rowel Spurs by artist unknown. Two silver spurs with a curved band that wraps around a heel. The top of each spur features a star-shaped rowel with multiple points. The rowel is attached to the end of a short stem that rises from the curved band. On one spur, rowel points upward, and on the other, it points downward. The ends of the curved bands are decorated with scrollwork. Small bells are attached to the bands near the rowels. The spurs have a shiny, metallic finish and are set against a plain gray background.
