Pair of Rowel Spurs

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Pair of Rowel Spurs by Artist unknown. Two spurs are shown on a gray background. The spurs have a long, thin, dark brown stem with a twisted rope-like design. The top of each spur has a short, curved piece with two small holes. The rowel is a star-shaped wheel with pointed ends, attached to the end of the stem. The rowel on one spur faces left and on the other right. The metal is primarily bronze or brass with a brown and gold color. The edge of one spur appears jagged. The spurs are symmetrical but not identical. The background is a solid light grey color.
