Horse Armor

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white photograph of horse armor. The armor consists of multiple pieces laid out on a white surface against a gray wall. The largest piece is on the left; it is horseshoe-shaped, open at the top with a pointed end on the right. Its width is approximately one and a half times its height. The piece has a dark color with lighter spots. To the right are two long, thin pieces, side by side, with a slight outward curve. They are the same shape but not identical; the one on the right is wider at the bottom. Both pieces have a series of horizontal slits along their length. In front of and below the large piece on the left is a long, curved piece. Underneath and scattered around the base are various small to medium-sized pieces of armor. Some are flat and shaped like upside-down or right-side-up V's; others are long and thin. The small pieces are arranged in two groups separated by a gap. The image includes a title in the bottom-right corner: Horse Armor.
