Covered jar (Guan)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Covered jar (Guan) is a tan-colored ceramic vessel. The jar has a wide, rounded body with a flat bottom. The body features a textured pattern resembling woven fabric or a basket weave design. Two small, rounded protrusions are on either side of the body. The lid is dome-shaped with a small, rounded knob on top. A small lip around the edge of the lid fits into the body of the jar. The background is a gradient that transitions from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom. The jar casts a shadow on the surface below it.
