Buddha Enthroned in a Shrine, Leaf from a dispersed Pancavimsatisahasrika Prajnaparamita Manuscript

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The painting depicts a figure of Buddha sitting cross-legged on a throne-like seat. The Buddha has a halo behind his head and wears a red robe. His right hand is positioned in front of his chest, and his left hand rests on his lap. He has earrings and an ushnisha on top of his head. Behind him is a red backdrop with a white circle and a blue border. The blue border has a white decorative top. There are red symbols around the white circle. The background of the painting is divided into sections with a yellow center section and brown side sections. The brown sections contain black text written in a foreign language. The painting appears to be on a rough, aged surface.
