Stockings

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Stockings by Alexander Rodchenko. Two long, dark-colored stockings, possibly black or dark gray, made of a smooth fabric, likely nylon or silk. Stockings have a ribbed texture running vertically along their length. The top portion of each stocking is plain, while the lower section has vertical ribbing that becomes more pronounced towards the top of the ribbed section. A seam runs along the outside of each stocking. The stocking on the right has a noticeable tear or run in the fabric on the lower half. Both stockings have a pointed toe. They are displayed flat against a light-colored background.
