Cabasset

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Cabasset by an unknown artist. The helmet has an elongated teardrop-shaped top with a pointed tip. The helmet is primarily silver-colored with a darker metallic sheen. The helmet has a flat brim with a rope-like pattern etched into the edge. There are ten brass rivets along the edge of the brim. Two oval-shaped etchings on either side of the helmet depict a man in 16th-century European-style clothing. The helmet features etched decorative lines and shapes, including vertical lines down the center with a floral pattern to the left and right. A rope-like pattern borders the etched designs. The background of the image is gray.
