Drawing of Two Medieval Swords

Mariano Fortuny Marsal

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Drawing of a medieval sword and a partial sketch of another, on aged paper with darker brown stains. The main sword drawing is on the right. It has a long, straight blade with a slight taper towards the tip. The hilt has a rounded pommel on top and a crossguard with decorative designs. The crossguard curves downward slightly at the ends. The grip appears narrow. To the left, a partial sketch of another sword shows a bulbous pommel and a long grip. Two red circular stamps are on the paper, one on either side of the main drawing. Handwritten cursive text is in the lower right corner.
