Andiron

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Two silver andiron objects, titled "Andiron" by an unknown artist, have a long, thin, spiral column with a decorative base and top. The base of each object has a square shape with three curved legs extending from it, each ending in a small ball-like foot. A decorative element, possibly a shield or crest, is visible on the front of each base. The top of each object features a small finial, a narrow, tapered section and then a wider section resembling a small bowl. The objects are positioned on a flat surface against a plain background.
