Andiron

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image shows a pair of andirons by the artist Andiron. Two metal fireplace andirons with ornate designs are shown. Each andiron has a square base with three legs, each ending in a claw-like foot. The base supports a square column with a design on each side. Above the column is a cylindrical section with decorative molding at the top and bottom. A cup-shaped section sits atop the cylinder and is topped with a flame-shaped finial. A dark metal piece extends from the back of each andiron, forming an L-shape with a short vertical leg. The background is a plain wall and floor.
