Andiron

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Pair of andirons, "Andiron", by unknown artist. Two metal fireplace supports. Vertical posts have decorative tops resembling a flame. Below the flame-like tops, posts have geometric shapes, a twisted middle section, then a square base. The base of each post has three curved legs ending in a claw-like foot. Two horizontal bars connect the two posts, one on each side, near the base. The bars are straight with a slight upward curve at each end. The items sit on a flat surface against a plain background.
