Canon Page from a Missal: Christ in Majesty with Evangelists

Cleveland Museum of Art

A colorful illustration features a central figure seated on a throne. The seated figure wears a blue robe and a tan garment over it. The figure sits on a brown throne in a diamond-shaped frame and has their right hand raised in a gesture and their left hand holding a book. The figure is flanked by two white structures. Behind the figure is a red background with a green mountain scene. The diamond frame is gold with blue and black details. The border around the diamond frame features four animals and four winged figures holding scrolls. The animals are a lion at bottom left and a bull at bottom right. The border is ornate with gold, blue, and white patterns. The overall design includes detailed patterns throughout. The work, Christ in Majesty with Evangelists by an unknown artist, possibly dates back to a medieval period.
