Fragment of an Antiphonary with Historiated Initial (A): Christ in Majesty

Neri da Rimini

Cleveland Museum of Art

Medieval illuminated manuscript page with a large historiated initial. Christ in Majesty sits enthroned in the center wearing a blue robe and gesturing with his right hand. He has a gold nimbus around his head. The initial is formed by a large blue and gold curved shape with orange accents. Four angels are positioned around Christ, two above and two below. The top section features a red and gray circle with a bearded face. A column of music notation lines runs along the right side. The background of the manuscript page is off-white with some visible signs of aging. Red musical notation and other decorative elements adorn the page.
